Abstract EN

Objective : To carry out performance evaluation on the automated sedimentation rate instrument: SED RATE TIMER-X, which can replace the manual method to perform the erythrocyte sedimentation rate test.

Methods: Five samples were taken from five volunteers to carry out the precision study, whereas 570 blood samples anticoagulated with ethylene diamino-tetra acetic acid (EDTA), were used to compare the results of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate obtained by the reference method currently in use, with those obtained by the Sed Rate Timer-X Correlation and agreement studies were done on the results obtained.

Results : Closely precise results were obtained.

The correlation coefficient was 0.97 with agreement limits of (-18-13).

Eight percent of the total values were outside the limits.

Thirty six percent of values lay in the range of 50-100 millimeters/hour and were outside the limits of agreement.

Conclusion : Other instruments should be evaluated, in order to give precise and accurate results to all ranges of ESR values.
