Metacognition is one of the fields of knowledge that plays an important role in many types of learning and production, which requires the learner to assimilate information and knowledge as well as interact with the variables of his age and be able to face various problems, we find that modern education has become dependent on metacognition and its strategies in the educational process, as it is concerned with developing the skills of the learner in analysis, planning, monitoring and evaluation, what makes him aware of the tasks and activities presented to him, in control of his thinking, and an observer of his learning behavior to determine the extent of his success and achievement of his goals.

accordingly, we aim through this study to introduce metacognition, its strategies, its importance in the educational process, as well as the principles on which it is based.
