Abstract EN

Elegy is a very important form of poetry which has been composed by poets since ancient times.

Shia’s Twelve Imams paid special attention to highly pointed lines of elegy in different ways.

They either composed elegiac poetry of their own or made use of elegies written by others.

Sometimes they encouraged their friends to compose elegies on the death of their loved ones to keep their memories alive.

Or they encouraged people to write elegiac poetry on the sufferings of the Imams, and they would do this sometimes by appearing in people’s dreams and inspiring them very meaningful lines of poetry.
