Abstract EN

This paper seeks to analyse the effectiveness of the role of the African Union peace and security council (AUPSC) in conflict prevention, management and resolution in Africa.

firstly, the paper analyses the PSCAU's composition and its main organs and the supporting structures falling under the council ; namely, the panel of the wise and the African standby force (ASF) besides the peace fund and the continental early warning system.

secondly, we will examine the PSCAU's relationship with the sub-regional mechanisms for conflict prevention, management and resolution in so far as the promotion of peace and security.

while, the last part will focus on discussing how the peace and security council proposes to address some of the most serious threats to peace and security in Africa, among which are unconstitutional changes of governments and terrorism.
