Abstract EN

The research: “Minor Disbelief in the prophetic Sunnah” studies the Prophetic hadīths where the word (disbelief) is mentioned, and it clarifies the meaning of that form of disbelief which is minor disbelief.

That form of disbelief is also called practical disbelief, which is not disbelief in creed.

The reason for this form of disbelief being described as minor is that it has been mentioned together with actions and speech.

The scholars from the pious predecessors and those who followed them mentioned specifically certain actions and statements that are not considered a larger form of disbelief.

An example of that is that the prophet () said: “Reviling a Muslim is disobedience and fighting him is disbelief”.

He also described the wives by saying that “they commit disbelief in their companionship [to their husbands]”, and he said: “Arguing about the Qur’ān is disbelief” and other similar statements.

The research has thirteen chapters.

The first section mentioned chapters that explained the meaning of disbelief and its position amongst sins.

It also mentioned the danger of accusing a Muslim of disbelief and the stance of the pious predecessors regarding the hadiths of al-Wa’īd (threat of punishment).

The ending of the research mentioned the conclusions.

One of the most important results of the research was that minor disbelief is usually mentioned to describe an action that it is huge.

That is why the threat of punishment is mentioned and also that it can lead a person to commit the greater form of disbelief.
