English Abstract

Data center site selection plays a vital role in ensuring operational efficiency and achieving investment goals.

This study aims at employing a multi criteria decision making approach to evaluate and select the optimal site to construct a Data center in Jordan, depending on a group of geographical, financial, political, and social factors.

The methodology combines the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) with the technique for order of preference by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS) to select the best site.

The main and sub-criteria were initially established to assess the locations which included all of the kingdom's governorates.

AHP was then used to obtain the weights of the main criteria and sub-criteria based on experts‘ opinions.

Then, TOPSIS was applied to rank the optimal location based on matching with standards.

To confirm and enrich the results, the Entropy method was applied to weigh criteria based upon the expected value of the subjective information of criteria ruling out expert‘s opinion.

It has been observed that Irbid obtains the first rank with relative closeness to the ideal solution by 80%, followed by Jerash and Ajloun with relative closeness to the ideal solution by 76% , while Amman obtains the last rank by 39% relative closeness to the ideal solution .

Ultimately, the results of the study should provide decision makers and companies with an academic help and significant direction for assessing ideal methodologies when constructing a Data center in Jordan.
