Poetry is very important for children as it fosters their feelings, taste, and imagination, enhances their aesthetic sense, trains them to follow good ethics, satisfies their emotional needs, plays a crucial role in their mental, intellectual and social development and finally it provides them with a valuable repertoire of vocabulary.

Therefore, poets writing poetry for children should comply with some principles concerning composing appropriate poems for children.

This study using a descriptive-interpretive framework intends to analyze the characteristics of children’s poetry in terms of thought (content /theme), language, music, and imagery in the works of some eminent poets like Soleiman Al-Eesa, Ahmad Al-Swailem, Jamil Soltan, and Ahmad Najib.

The most significant results of this research are as follows: Children’s poets should select thought and themes which are in line with the purpose of training and building a future for children.

The language of children’s poetry should be eloquent (formal) and free from jargoned vocabularies, and be close to children’s vocabularies.

The music of children’s poetry should be taken from light rhythms, be rhythmic, ear pleasing and refreshing Imagery in children’s poetry should be appropriate for their understanding and it should have simple and sensual imagery.
