Abstract EN

The debate around democracy within the arab world; A critical approach.

The purpose of this study is the debate around democracy within the arab world.

It asserts that this discussion is dominated by the culturalist theses which do not take into account political and sociological phenomena's historical contexts.

This fact, thus, leads to essentialism which is an effect of ethnocentrism and occidental centrism.

This debate taking place within the political or academic field is impregnated.

Firstly by the political-historical context which witnessed the national state birth, and also by the renaissance intellectual and ideological controversies, and without omitting finally, by the nationalist construction context which guided the nationalist populismWe aim through this research to reinsert the question of (the debate around) within a multidisciplinary explicative framework, that is to say, anthropology, political sociology and political economy.

From this perspective, treating the question of democracy as a pre-established recipe or as a cultural problematic, has no historical or theoretical pertinence.

Finally, we are debating the historical and social conditions' reality as related to the democratic compromise functioning in the arab world.

Le débat sur la démocratie dans le monde arabe: Approche critiqueCette étude a comme objet le débat autour de la démocratie dans le monde arabe.

Elle postule que cette discussion est dominée par les thèses culturalistes qui ne tiennent pas compte des contextes historiques des phénomènes politiques et sociologiques.

D'où l'aboutissement à l'essentialisme qui est aussi un effet de l'ethnocentrisme et de l'occidentalo-centrisme.

Ce débat qui s'inscrit dans le champ politique ou académique, est imprégné, tout d'abord, par le contexte historique-politique dans lequel l'Etat national a vu le jour ainsi que les controverses intellectuelles et idéologiques de la Nahda(la renaissance), sans omettre enfin, le contexte de la construction nationaliste qui a conduit le nationalisme populiste.

Notre objectif de recherche aura trait à réinsérer la question de (et le débat sur) la démocratie dans un cadre explicatif multidisciplinaire, à savoir l'anthropologie, la sociologie politique et l'économie politique.

Dans cette perspective, poser la question de la démocratie comme recette préétablie, ou comme une problématique culturelle, n'a aucune pertinence historique ni théorique.

Nous proposons à la fin de débattre de la réalité des conditions socio historiques au fonctionnement du compromis démocratique dans le monde arabe.
