Abstract EN

This anthropological study seeks to investigate the changes in social customs and traditions that have occurred in the community of Irbid as a result of the recurrent use of social networking sites, "Facebook as a model".

On the other hand, this study detected the behavior of individuals within the community of study, to find out the effects of using social networks via the Internet on social relationships.

Methodology: The study applied the qualitative approach, as the data have been collected through semi-in-depth interviews, and observation.

The functional constructivist theory model guided the theoretical approach to analyze the collected data.

The results of this study confirmed that society has been affected by introducing people to Facebook into their daily life.

The excessive use and misuse of “Facebook” has led to negative consequences, such as: family disintegration, breach of privacy, loss of parents’ authority over children, and high divorce cases due to marital disputes between spouses.

Despite the fact that, Facebook has brought us closer together and shortened the time, however, it reinforced the social isolation, because it replaced the physical presence in social events, which led to changes in the structure of society and the role of individuals.
