Cystic lymphangioma of small bowel mesentery in an adult

Cystic lymphangiomas are rare congenital benign neoplasms that may occur at any age.

They are often asymptomatic and found incidentally, they may arise within the mesentery of the small bowel.

We describe a case of a 22-year-old male, who presented with paraumbilical abdominal pain, on examination a large mass in the central part of the abdominal cavity was discovered.

Preoperative studies defined the presence of a large cystic mass. At laparotomy, a large cystic tumor of the small bowel mesentery was excised.

Histopathologic examination diagnosed the tumor as a cystic lymphangioma.
