English Abstract
Seasonal flood poses a global problem affecting countries and causes potential damage and loss of all types: i) environmental (through the elimination of the environment, water, animal and plant), ii) social (through deaths or injuries that may occur) and economic (through waste of the economy, public money and investments ) and iii) security (the forces intervene with all their capabilities in the event of a flood that poses a physical danger to them).
This research deals with a case study of flood risk management in Amman downtown, Jordan.
Unfortunately, the city lacks a specific strategy to deal with this situation coupled with inability to overcome obstacles that prevent the provision of sustainable management of risk.
A questionnaire was developed for stakeholders, in order to assess the effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable to achieve the objectives of the study.
A root cause analysis was performed with recommendations that must be adhered to.
Additionally, a comprehensive framework was presented in order to reduce this phenomenon and mitigate its effects by establishing a risk register and a flood response plan.
The results of the study showed a statistically significant effect at the professional level (α≤0.05) for the effect of seasonal flood risk management in Amman downtown.
The research recommendations include the need for a periodic cleaning and maintenance of rainwater drainage networks, especially before the winter season, which increases the drain capacity of these networks and reduces the occurrence of surface floods.
The research suggests the use of engineering infrastructure to control urban runoff and preserve rainwater storage during heavy rainfall seasons which provides opportunities to solve problems of surface water drainage and protect the urban environment achieved through the design and construction of urban green spaces.
