Moderation and temperance have the same meaning in terms of lexical meaning and religious terminology.

Mediocrity and temperance have been used semantically in terms such as justice, perseverance, the best, moderation, superiority, and good quality.

Quranic reasons and prophetic hadiths express the fact that the religion of Islam is based on moderation and temperance in all its affairs and orders, and is far from any exaggeration, fault, and neglect.

And whatever is proven in religion is easy and is in the middle between extremism and extravagance, but what man sees from the point of view of reason and thinking as the middle can not necessarily be a part of religion.

Also, the moderation and temperance of the Muslim Ummah are manifested in the fact of the establishment of the religion and the implementation of its rules and regulations in all aspects of life and the commandment of the good and the prohibition of the bad and the correct belief in God Almighty.

The right belief and faith that shows its effects and consequences in the field of action so that the Muslim Ummah enjoys the position that God Almighty has assigned to it .

Another indicator of moderation and temperance in Islam is that it honors human beings and welcomes Muslim greetings and connections with others, and links science and knowledge with moral values and politeness.

If these indicators and values are implemented in the Islamic society, there is no doubt that there is no room for exaggeration, fault, and neglect.

This article, which has been written by descriptive-analytical method, tries to re examine the concept of moderation and temperance through the semantics of the words "mediocrity and temperance" in the Holy Quran and the prophetic tradition and to recognize its practical examples in the Qur'an and Sunnah and its role in repelling exaggeration and the opposite point (fault and neglect).
