They voted for the constitution of Iraq in 2005 and chose to live under the shadow of the federal Iraqi state, Under federal rule, and under The Kurdistan Regional Government announced that it would hold a referendum in the region, which would be a first step towards separation from Iraq, which caused a crisis between the Kurdistan Regional and the Iraqi central government, especially that Iraq is living in difficult circumstances because of fighting terrorist organizations that entered Iraq, The referendum also raised tension in the region because the surrounding regional states considered the referendum to threaten its national security and incite the Kurds in it to demand the same if the dream of the Kurds in Iraq.
