Abstract EN

The aim of the present paper is to shed light on the differences betweenstandard English and classical Arabic in metaphorically mapping the conceptof one of the ubiquitous emotions in language which is "anger".

Both Englishand Arabic have a large amount of vocabulary of words and phrases relatedto the emotion of anger, and rich discourses about people's feelings so it canbe a highly rich and suitable area for research.

The reasons why classicalArabic was chosen for the comparison are: 1.

There is an exhaustive body ofcontrastive research on all dialects of Arabic in relation to conceptualmetaphors but not standard Arabic.

2.

The outstanding contribution of theArab pioneers to the study of metaphor of emotions in general and conceptualmetaphors in particular shouldn't be denied.

In particular AlJurjanidistinguished work on Arabic Rhetoric in general and metaphor in particularin his outstanding book "Secrets of Rhetroic " ( Asrar al-Balaghah ) in whichhe made an extensive study of all types of metaphor and its advantages.

Hehad deeply influenced many of the contemporary Arab linguists and literaryfigures.

They still adopt his theory in their analysis.

, 3.

To review what hasbeen said about metaphor by traditional Arab linguists and compare theirviews to the modern view in English may enable us to focus on the points ofsimilarities and differences in the way they depict metaphoricity of linguisticexpressions in Arabic and its counterpart.

Therefore all the data collectedwere based on classical literary texts, the Holy Quran and "AlhadeethAlnabawy (Speeches of the Prophet Mohammed).

As for English, the datawas collected from books of cognitive grammar, dictionaries and literarytexts.
