Despite the great importance of the concept of national security and its widespread use, it is a modern concept in political science, and the use of the term national security dates back to the end of World War II.

Where a stream of literature appeared looking at how to achieve national security and avoid war, and among its results was the emergence of theories of deterrence and balance, then the American National Security Council was established in 1974 AD, and since that date the use of the concept of national security has spread at its various levels according to the threats, nature of local, regional and international conditions.

The paper will seek to clarify the concept of national security, its characteristics and internal and external dimensions, in addition to its pillars and fields, as well as the elements of national security and its threats.
