The fallen woman was a widespread phenomenon in theVictorian Age as a result of the social changes imposed by theIndustrial Revolution.

Due to social persecution, the vastimmigration from the countryside to cities and theexploitation of women and children as cheap working handsin mines and factories, great numbers of young women weredriven to prostitution.

This paper is an attempt to exploreDante Gabriel Rossetti's treatment of the theme of fallenwomen in four of his poems: "The Bride's Prelude", "A LastConfession", "Found" and "Jenny".

The first section of thepaper is a biographical note on the poet.

The second section isa brief background of the poem and the last one is devoted toan analysis of the poems followed by a conclusion whichsums up the results of the study.
