The current paper investigates the concept of isolation andloneliness in the contemporary novel of Jojo Moyes' Me BeforeYou, which is written in 2012.

Embodying the elements of romanceand romanticism, the novel is described by many critics as aromantic comedy that narrates a true love story.

The studyexplores the theme of isolation and loneliness by relying onpsychoanalysis perspectives to interpret these two concepts.

Itadopts a framework of psychoanalysis views, particularly Freud'sconcept of isolation, to study the characters' motives towardsisolation and solitude, as well as to reveal the physical andemotional conditions that the characters have encountered in theircommunity.

It also points out that the pattern of isolation can beconsidered as a defense mechanism to protect the charactersagainst their harmful thoughts showing the starkness of theirsurroundings circumstances.
