Among the important aspects that reflect the historical importance of this city is its standing in the face of the foreign invasions that Iraq has been subjected to throughout the various historical eras, as well as its standing against the internal domination of the Abbasid Caliphate and the support of the Caliphs in working to restore their influence, as happened during the military domination of the Turkish soldiers in Baghdad over the caliphate, And standing in the face of the domination of foreign powers over Iraq and the acquisition of influence during the Abbasid era, such as the Buyids and the Seljuks.

This research sheds light on the position of Mosul on the last of these invasions - as far as the Islamic era is concerned - which is the Mongol invasion that targeted the Islamic cities one after the other, starting from the Islamic East after the fall of the Khwarizmeya Emirate, and just as the Islamic cities that were subjected to this invasion had their position, so did Mosul Its position on this invasion, which targeted the entire Islamic world in general, and Baghdad, the capital of the Islamic caliphate, in particular.
