Abstract EN

This study is about psychological security in the Palestinian society in the Gaza strip which is clearly distinguished from the rest of the countries of the Arab world who live peacefully.

Gaza strip history is associated with successive events such as Israeli occupation for the lands, demonstrations, uprisings, militant resistance.

Israeli has recently unilaterally withdrawn from Gaza after being there for 38 years of occupation.

This study is attempted to identify the effects of this withdrawal on the psychological well-being for university students in addition to studying relationship between psychological security with their attitudes towards the withdrawal knowing the fact that some were happy with the withdrawal, others attributed this procedure to the strength of the resistance and some remained skeptical from the unilateral acts from the Israeli army and see that it is an escape from political attainments.

The study sample consisted from 359 university students from three different universities of Gaza ( Islamic university, Alaqsa university, Al-Quds Open University ).

Results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between the level of psychological security and attitudes towards withdrawal.

Results showed also that the average level of psychological security was 78.70% and attitudes were generally positive.

90.8% attributed the withdrawal as victory to Palestinian resistance.

8.3% attributed this to other reason such as international negotiations and pressure.

Results showed significant differences in the level of psychological security due to area of residence specially for those who live close to settlements and borders .

No significant differences were observed due to gender and having one family member injured.
