English Abstract
The world moves from the colonial to the post-colonial era.
Colonialism and imperialism have potent effects and forces in history and human sensibility for the last four or five centuries.
If colonialism is the practice of Western controlling other Asian or African countries, imperialism is the state of mind, the theoretical part of colonialism.
This study examines George Orwell's Shooting an Elephant in the light of the post-colonial theory.
Despite being anti- imperialist, Orwell fails to perceive any positive side in Burmese natives despite his hatred of colonial rule.
No reader can have an unbiased view of the Burmese as he reads Orwell's description of them.
Orwell's portrayal gives a wrong impression about the Burmese; he portrays them as nasty creatures, crowded and sneering faces, reducing their human and individual identities.
