While the US administration stood on the side of the National Movement for the Liberation of Angola (FNA) and the National Union for the Liberation of Entire Angola (UNITA) against the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) which is supported by the Soviet Union to prevent it from seizing power in Angola.

The US Congress legislated a law obligating the US administration to stop the aid provided for the liberation movements in Angola, thus declaring the end of the work.

The American secrecy in Angola and with the loss of American support, the non-communist movements collapsed and the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) imposed its control over the country and was recognized by the international community.
