Abstract EN

This paper attempts to identify and classify the interrelationships between metaphors in anthologies of Mahmoud Hassan Ismail’s poetry.

Although Arabic rhetoric has been accused of a partial analytical character, this paper, inspired by the ideas and techniques of some ancient Arab rhetoricians and critics, addresses his poetry from a holistic perspective using a comparative linguistic approach.

The paper assumes that the interrelationships between metaphors can be used as a tool for revealing creativity features (fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration and sensitivity to problems) in relation to the words and meanings of metaphors in his poetry.

Two of the most important results of this paper are providing a new classification of interrelationships between metaphors and ordering the poet’s creative abilities according to its strength.
