This study provides a critical approach that aims to explore the sources of delight in reading narrative works using practical examples from Arabic novels.

The significance of this study lies in its argumentation and interpretation of the sources, reasons, and examples of delight in reading narratives.

Most of the previous studies which tackled the delight of reading narratives were either purely theoretical with no practice or replete with other topics related to the novel’s theory and types of reception.

The problem statement of this critical approach can be identified through its attempt to find answers for the following questions: where do the sources of delight in reading narratives come from? Why does the reader feel delighted in reading? What sets reading narratives apart from other types of readings? Does the writer’s joyful feeling in writing guarantee the reader’s delight? Moreover, what role do artistic aesthetics play in achieving delight? This critical approach will capitalize on the analytical method’s outcomes, which can clarify and examine the sources of delight in reading narratives.
