Abstract EN

This research deals with the various semantic and pragmatic dimensions of the book Kalila wa Dimna.

These semantics are activated and produced through the act of reading and receiving, as levels of readers vary based on the different reference and culture of the recipients, as well as their goal of reading.

The research used some procedures of the aesthetics of reception as a post-structural trend based on open text and multiple readings.

The book of Kalila wa Dimna has gained great importance through the act of reading and receiving, which has granted immortality to this literary work over time.

At the beginning of this research we talked about the pragmatic context of the book and highlighted its historical origins alongside with how Ibn Al-Muqaffa adapted his translation in such a way that fits in with the Arabic reader, then we dealt with the role of the reader and the importance of the act of reading in producing connotations and extracting of ambiguities depending on the interpretive competence of the readers and their different cognitive references.

In the end, we tried to complete a brief applied study of two selected stories from the book, where we focused on highlighting the allegorical and symbolic nature of the characters employed in the two stories, as the political context imposed on Ibn al-Muqaffa to build his book outwardly as enjoyment and entertainment, while internally he uses allusions and proverbs to criticize the ruling apparatus and power through the use of animal masks
