Lack of intellectual property (IP) law may inhibit innovation and create an environment open to unfair competition.

Furthermore, the protection of IP has a crucial role to play in supporting a country's economy and consequently the global economy.

Recognition of this fact has led to the establishment of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), an agency that aims to support and promote the protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs) through international cooperation.

The technology revolution, however, has changed how large-scale transactions are conducted.

E-commerce is one of the advantages that has been generated by the introduction of the internet.

Yet, while e-commerce has brought about many benefits, it has also created several unprecedented issues due to the new modes of business operation.

There is a need to examine the efficiency of current measures used to protect IPRs in e-commerce.
