Abstract EN

The study focuses on the poetic of supplication by discussing a poem in which Ibn Musharraf pleads with Imām Fayṣal ibn Turkī to support him against the zakat collectors who –unjustly- took too much zakat from people of the poet's hometown, i.e.

al-Aḥsāʾ.

the study clarifies the significance of the supplicant's position by discussing how Ibn Musharraf exploits his traditional poem, such as choosing its sections - nasīb and madīḥ - carefully and employing their themes, images, lexicon etc.

to persuade the ruler to fulfill the poet's request.

Moreover, the study explains the relation between Marcel Mauss' theory of (Ritual Exchange) and the supplicatory poem, particularly its negotiation function which forms the nature of the relation between the poet and the ruler.
