Abstract EN

This study aims at investigating the notion of fidelity and the impact of the patronage in the translation at foreign Arabic-language TVs.

it is, noteworthy, altruism that these organs are launched to shape Arab public opinion with a view to creating new generations that are docile to the foreigners’ orientations, as well as to justify the allegations of their governments’ interference in the region as guardians of democracy.

the article tests the hypothesis that the patronage frames the work of the translators.

thence, the hidden ideologies in news texts are changed / re-presented (or maintained) when translated at foreign Arabic-Language TVs, taking into account the socio-cultural practices followed by these news institutions.

it also investigates strategies and techniques adopted by news translators to achieve this purpose.

to do this, a corpus of 3 examples relating to Egypt, France, and Yemeni war are examined to identify the ideological representation, alterations happening through translation, based on the dictations of the patronage as illustrated by the theorists of the cultural turn approach, as well as the techniques adopted to produce an ideology-laden translation.

the findings indicate the TTs have been ideologically mediated in a way that is completely different from the STs and conform to the news organizations’ political and ideological leanings.

this resulted in reformulating a different Arabic version from the original, resorting to a range of strategies proposed by Lefevere and others.
