The Rotterdam Convention is the last convention of the international organization for the Carriage of goods by sea, which contains many updates relating to Carriage of goods by sea, as well as all positive points of the previous conventions.

The convention had regulated the matter of the agreement clauses that exempt (exonerate) or limit the liability of the maritime carrier, and considered that ingeneralas void and null clauses.

However, contrary to the previous conventions, its main update comes into putting an exception to the principle of nullity of the agreement clauses.
