The African continent is experiencing a very difficult security situation characterized by a multitude of threats and dangers mainly related to the dilemmas of the emergence of the postcolonial state.

the continent has experienced security crises that constitute a matrix of ethnic, racial and sectarian conflicts that have defined the continent's security landscape throughout the nineties.

this period has seen a scene of humanitarian disasters and the most devastating genocides that humanity has known since the end of the Second World War and ended the lives of millions of people.

at a time when these conflicts have barely stopped, other security threats are emerging for the continent to become a scene of a new wave of security instability with multi-faceted terrorist groups.

organized crime groups have benefited from the security vacuum and gray areas of protection for their activities.

thus, the security situation was aggravated mainly by the relationship between the various terrorist organizations, organized crime groups, piracy groups and some leaders of separatist organizations.

the most striking picture of this relationship is the region of West Africa, which is witnessing a sort of functional and organic alliance between terrorist groups and criminal organizations.
