The process of transmission of toponyms through oral culture is a known phenomenon since ancient times that people circulate from one generation to the next and usually circulate in proverbs, songs, jokes and riddles, or in folklore, which is considered one of the forms of oral folk expression and includes a group of expressive branches, the most important of which is the folk story whether comic or myth.

it is represented in small explanatory stories and in various topics.

in this paper, we will try to present some examples of place names in the Tlemcen region that have relationship with the righteous saints or which called hagiotoponyms, and the popular tales woven around them which were the reason for naming, and trying to show how folk tales are fixing the names in the collective memory and thus preserving the national and Islamic identity and heritage, and whether these places have undergone changes in the naming by the administrative staff.
