The speech act theory is a subfield of pragmatics.

it studies how words are used not only to present information, but also to carry out actions.

it also considers language as a part of the events within the conversational process.

since political discourse involves the participation of pragmatics, this research paper attempts to scrutinize speech acts in general and focuses in particular on the achievement acts in translating some of president Morsi’s speeches, in order to extrapolate the relationship between the translation of speech acts at their three pragmatic levels and the lexical choice, and the extent to which the translator is able to achieve the performance power in general, and the achievement power of the original speech act.

one of main outcomes of this research is that the translation of speech acts, which does not depend only on the sender, but also goes beyond it to the recipient who might be the translator himself.
