Abstract EN
The current study aims to determine the presence of Alexithymia among elderly patients with chronic diseases.
In order to achieve the objectives of the study, Toronto Alexithymia Scale 20 (TAS 20) was adopted, and the descriptive approach was used.
The study sample included 30 elderly patients with chronic diseases of both sexes (13 men and 17 women) suffering from the following chronic diseases: cardiovascular diseases, endocrine diseases, digestive diseases, respiratory diseases, orthopedic diseases, aged between 60-86 years, The results indicated a high degree of Alexithymia among elderly people with chronic diseases, and the results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the degree of Alexithymia according to the variables: residence of the elderly in the home and nursing homes, marital status, and age.
While there are significant differences between the sexes in the degree of Alexithymia, the results of this study showed that men are more affected by Alexithymia disorder than women.
