Abstract EN

This article aimed to reveal the truth about the relationship between married couples' empathy, and marital satisfaction; according to results of previous studies related to this topic.

We have noticed that the main reasons that encourage couples to seek help; is marital dissatisfaction caused by poor communication and lack of understanding.

Actually many researches and studies have been made but, contradictory results were obtained; Furthermore, Not all of them supporting the intuitive thinking that says, “empathy may contribute to greater marital satisfaction”.

In an attempt to investigate the reasons of these contradictions, we suggested “perception” as a link between the real empathy given by a partner, and the empathy perceived by the other partner and its impact on their marital satisfaction.

Indeed the analysis proved that perceived empathy appeared to be a better and Powerful indicator of marital satisfaction more than" empathy in it self".

This makes us emphasis on the importance of focusing, during building couples educational therapy programs not only on encouraging offering empathy by the individual to his partner, but also ensuring that the other partner is aware of the empathy offered to him, which may facilitate to many couples reaching higher levels of satisfaction in their relationship.
