Abstract EN

Undoubtedly, the headline in newspapers poses a big problem in translation because it has a multifunction and an important position in the newspaper.

this multifunctionality of the headline led to a difficulty in finding a functional equivalence between the source headline and the target one.

besides, the translator faces the challenge of transferring the meaning (signification) into the target language whilst respecting editorial technics which is very important thus, that's the dynamic equivalence which is the most appropriate to the translation of a headline, considering its pragmatic character.

in this study, we will deal with the ways of achieving both formal and dynamic equivalences in translating some examples of headlines from an Algerian newspaper «Echourouk online".

this applied test resulted in the necessity of the translator's diligence in achieving formal equivalence and pragmatic one at the same time.

dynamic equivalence is preferred over formalism in case it is not possible as it suits the pragmatic character of journalistic addressing that performs advertising functions.
