Abstract EN

This study aims to highlight the repercussions of the Corona virus on the global economy, through a reading of the most important global economic indicators, with the aim of identifying the extent of the contribution of this epidemic to causing a global economic crisis that may be the most difficult in this century, as well as highlighting the most important measures taken by the international monetary fund to mitigate of the economic repercussions of this pandemic.

this study concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic caused great economic losses that affected all sectors without exception, during which the tourism sector took the largest share of losses.

when it came to a quick intervention of the international monetary fund to meet the needs of member states through several policies, the most important of which are : the short-term liquidity line directed to member countries whose economies are strong and need medium support for the balance of payments in the short term, and the provision of emergency financing through the "rapid financing" instrument.

for member countries, without the need to have a full program with the member country, grant debt relief through the creation of the “catastrophe containment and relief trust (CCRT)” that provides immediate debt service relief for the poorest and most vulnerable pandemic-affected member countries, in addition to the "stand-by arrangement" that allows flexible response to the needs of member countries for external financing, support their corrective policies through short-term financing, and finally support the economic policies of countries to address the crisis.

however, the effectiveness of these procedures depends on the extent to which they are used in full transparency for the purpose for which they are financed.
