The concept of regional languages appeared in the western linguistic lesson with the latter's opening to describing the true reality of the general language, after it was seen as a unified one ; the researchers raised a question about the validity and objectivity of this view.

in addressing this topic, and the main purpose behind our article is to define the concept of "regional languages" because addressing this concept is almost non-existent in Arabic studies.

so we presented what Western scholars have presented descriptively through the most important articles that have been written on "regional languages", especially what was written by Claude Poirier, who dealt with the subject in a precise and specialized manner.

one of the most important results poirier and other scholars reached is that general languages have generated many regional languages, for various reasons and circumstances, including the expansion of the range of speakers of the same language throughout the world.
