who was suffering from many complex economic problems, which Soviet Union inherited from the Tsarist regime and its severity increased with the country’s participation in the World War I, and then the Civil War (1918-1921) made those problems more difficult.

the Soviet leaders had to break that economic siege and rebuild the country by taking advantage of the capitalist economy, despite the contradiction between the Soviet economic system and the Western economic systems.

but the Soviet Union's need for Western countries, led by the United States of America, made this contradiction somewhat marginal.
