Le spectre du passé ne cesse de jeter son ombre sur un présent incertain.

La présence coloniale en Algérie a duré un siècle et trente ans.

Une période suffisante pour démolir la personnalité algérienne en s'attaquant aux fondements identitaires d'un peuple musulman doté d'une pluralité linguistique symbole de la variété ethnique et anthropologique.

Le traumatisme identitaire qu'a subi l'écrivaine Leïla Sebbar fut dur et violent.

Une séparation et un anéantissement de l'identité patriarcale qui résonne encore dans ses œuvres.

Malgré les années d'exil en France, sa mémoire d'enfant en Algérie coloniale fut hantée par le malheur d'être autre.

Ne pouvant être ni du côté de la mère Française puisqu'elle porte un prénom arabe.

Ni de celui du père parce que sa mère est étrangère, et elle ne parle pas l'arabe.

Elle se voit perdue sans aucune voix.
