From utopia to the smart city, the question of identity has always been an essential subject that has been a strong presence in various literatures and scientific archives of philosophy, social sciences and humanities, despite all the criticisms received by this concept marked by ambiguity and shadow, which led some to suggest to address it with less ambiguous concepts to use it more efficiently, or bypass it starting its criticism before.

To put it, like Levi Strauss mentioned in his special episode on the theme of identity, organized in 1974-1975.

Through the elements of this article, we will try to approach the concept of identity by presenting and discussing the great trends that dealt with the subject in the social sciences and humanities, starting with philosophy, sociology, psychology and anthropology.
