The nexus of climate change and conflict in the Sahel region : insights from relevant studies

Africa and the Sahel in particular, are often seen as regions of the world where climate change threatens security and provoke violent conflict.

This is due to serious conflicts that have destabilized the region, and therefore it is seen as vulnerable to climate change.

This article aims to study the validity of this perception by providing a brief overview of the available theoretical literature on the links between climate change and violent conflict, especially in the African Sahel region.

The article concludes with the need for regional cooperation, particularly between the Maghreb and the Sahel, to address common challenges.
