English Abstract

The aim of this study was to monitor the change in vegetation cover in Ajloun Governorate using GIS and RS techniques and calculating the percentage of change and its quantity, in addition to the detection of the areas in which vegetation is concentrated and the calculation per capita from the green areas according to Administrative division of the governorate This study used the methodology of spatial and temporal analysis to study the change in vegetation cover during the period ( 1985-2001-2016 ) respectively.

The results of the study showed a decrease in vegetation cover.

The vegetation cover decreased from 90 km2 to 54 km2 ( 1985-2001 ), with a change of ( 40 )%.

The rate of vegetation cover decreased from ( 54 ) km2 to ( 37 ) km2 in 2001 and a change of 31%.

The total change from ( 1985-2016 ) was ( 59 ) %.

The results of the study showed that there was a change in the percentage of green areas during the years of study in Ajloun Governorate.

The per capita share decreased by 1325- 498 m2 during the period between ( 1985-2001 ) and a change rate of ( 62 )%.

This decline continued from ( 498-204 ) m2 between ( 2016-2001 ) and the percentage change in per capita 59%.

The percentage of total change in per capita participation during the study period ( 1985- 2016 ) was ( 85 )%.

The results of the study indicate that the most densely populated areas of vegetation are Ajloun and the smallest of them are Kofaranga, where Ajloun's reed occupies the first place.

The area of vegetation covers in 1985 was 44 km2 and in 2001 it was 29.580 km2 and 19.15 km2 in 2016, And the area of vegetation in 1985 ( 10 ) km2 in 2001 ( 3.8 ) km2, and ( 1.2 ) km2 in 2016.

Based on the above, the results of the study found that there is a decline in the areas of vegetation cover, this is evident through the analysis of satellite images that were based on the years ( 1985 - 2001 - 2016 ).

Which is due to the reading of statistics related to the increase in population accompanied by urban expansion at the expense of green areas, in addition to responsible and irresponsible forest fires and the fluctuation of rain amounts from year to year, and what was observed from the fun and grazing of the poor.

Based on the above, it was necessary to shed light on the reality of the vegetation cover in Ajloun governorate and to follow up on its decline based on remote sensing and geographic information systems technology in order to be able to stand continuously on the reality of vegetation and its follow-up to see the deterioration of vegetation cover represented by indicators Which provides us with satellite images of old and modern ones.
