The city of Cherchell is full of an important historical and archaeological heritage, which brought together a series of ancient and Islamic historical periods, this confirms the succession of ancient civilizations, which have left us traces as proofs that have remained witnesses of its authenticity, and have preserved many of its various archeological monuments.

This article deals with the history of the city of Cherchell from prehistoric times to the contemporary period, as it aims to highlight the role it played among the cities of the Mediterranean basin, as well as its contribution to the development of the civilization of North Africa and the medieval and modern Islamic Maghreb.
