This paper aims to question Islam's position on poetry and its relationship with criticism of poetry in the Islamic era.

It goes without saying that the attitude towards poetry is one thing, and criticism of poetry is something else.

The former has a religious character expressed in terms of permissible and forbidden, while the latter represents an aesthetic position whose strength is in its positive or negative influence in the consciousness of the recipient or the reader.

What is the position of Islam towards poetry and poets? What is the effect of that on criticism of poetry in particular and criticism of literature in general in the Islamic era? The core of what the study concluded is that what Islam was keen on and advocated for is the subjection of the aesthetic position to the religious position, and this is evident in the analysis of what came In the Holy Qur'an in poetry and poets, in the position of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, and in the position of the Companions, may God be pleased with them.
