Abstract EN

Heritage within the reform movements in the Arab Islamic world represented the way of life in philosophy and religion, as it is a means of interpreting reality as a psychological and social energy charged within the individual conscience and social consciousness, and it pushed for an intellectual, scientific, economic and political renaissance movement that builds a civilization and moves history.

the goal behind dealing with the problem of heritage and history is the rooting of an Arab and Islamic philosophy according to a liberal mental trend, in contrast to the vision of orientalist thought, which saw in it a mere imitation of Greek philosophy, preserving it from disappearing.

and based on this perception: how did contemporary Arab discourses deal with the past (heritage) and the present (the advanced west)? and were these discourses able to achieve independence from the orientalist discourse? what is the rationale behind the renaissance models of heritage issues in Arab thought? these questions are the subject of this paper, which tries to research the issue of dealing with the Arab and Islamic heritage according to two contemporary visions that seem backward to the point of contradiction, between Mustafa Abd al-Rizq (1885-1947), Islamic renewal thesis and Husayn Muruwwa's (1908-1987).

dialectical materialistic approach, and from this manifold impact, the issue of heritage and history formed a stage of founding and maturity, because it opened the horizons for critical studies of many Arab thinkers such as: al-Jabri, Hassan Hanafi, Muhammad Arkoun, and they reproduce our knowledge of ourselves by engaging in a cultural and civilized project in a new way.
