Abstract EN

One of the main challenges that the Algerian Revolution was facing since its launch on November, 1st, 1954 was the process of organizing and restructuring of the regions, with the aim of upgrading and supervising the masses to counter all the political and military measures that the French colonialism pursued to abort it.

The National Liberation Front endeavored to organize the Soumam Conference, held on August 20, 1956, which succeeded in creating the leadership bodies proper to the Liberation Revolution.

Among the most important tasks of these bodies, was a collective bottom-up unification and organization of military action, as well as the restructuring of the regions by dividing them into provinces (Wilayat) with the exception of Algiers, which has become an autonomous region compared to the rest of the other historical provinces and is subject to a special system and structure that receives commands directly from the Coordination and Implementation Committee (CCE).
