The proportional representation system coupled with the electoral thresholds is considered one of the most important means that countries use, firstly, to control the participation of political parties in the electoral process, secondly, their participation in the allocation process of seats and finally to reduce as much as possible the parties represented inside these councils in order to avoid, when they are numerous, their inability to carry out their tasks to the fullest.

This paper comes to demonstrate the effects of the electoral thresholds on political parties, both positive and negative.
