Abstract EN

Through this study, the issue of the impact of the exchange rate on the Algerian balance of payments was introduced by formulating a standard model of the impact of the exchange rate of the Algerian dinar on the balance of payments during the period from 1990 to 2017, and this study relied on the exchange rate variable in interpreting the total balance of payments balance.

The result was that the impact of the exchange rate is weak and negative on the balance of payments, which is not in line with economic theory due to the blockade of the pricing of Algeria's exports.

In dollars (hydrocarbons) and imports are not affected by the exchange rate because they are not flexible, so there is no point in using the exchange rate as a tool to adjust the balance of payments in Algeria.
