Genocide is used as a means of total or partial destruction of a national, ethnic or racial group, out of vengeful motives or as a strategy to transcend racial and ethnic differences in multiple societies, which applies to the Ugandan case when Yoweri Museveni's government did so against the Acholi minority.

In both cases, it was a heinous crime against civilians, which resulted in hundreds of thousands of dead, wounded and displaced persons, and the escape of justice for those accused of crimes against humanity and genocide.

This study, using descriptive and case study methodologies, sheds light on the state of Uganda through its national and ethnic social composition, the causes and parties involved in the outbreak of the civil war, and the background to the commission of genocide.
