Abstract EN

The aim of this research is to study the role of population size for the population clusters in the functional extension in the Governorate of Jerash, and to study the hierarchy of the population clusters in the Governorate of Jerash through the use of rank, size and hegemony index.

The results of study show that there are 53 population clusters of varying size of population.

Moreover, these clusters were divided into five levels according to their population size.

Jerash has taken a place as the first level while the lower levels included the largest number of localities, because it is predominantly rural.

The study also show that Jerash is not a dominant city and the hegemony index is around 0.79, while the major cities suffer from the non-applicability of the rule.

This is due to weaknesses in the hierarchy of the order of size of clusters of other ranks.

The study came up with some recommendations that we hope to benefit from in developing the field system in the Governorate of Jerash.
