High preparatory schools were established to teach the invading colonists, while preventing the indigenous from learning mainly the Arab education which was prevalent in Algeria before the occupation.

A fact embodied by the number of Algerians who were allowed to pursue their studies at schools.

needless to say that the spread at the French language and culture had col connotations mainly the perpetuation of colonialism.

In contrast, colonialism sought to teach Eastern languages, African civilization, and Arab-Islamic civilization in particular, to tighten and strengthen control over the people of these regions by learning their languages, dialects, customs and traditions so as to expand the scope of its geographical hegemony.

This was later embodied in the occupation of many countries in Africa and Asia in the late nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century.
